How does a dental crown restore my tooth?
When the damage to a person’s tooth is extreme, and it has been weakened, we can help. With the use of a porcelain crown, or a porcelain that has been pasted over a gold crown, we can provide strength and make your smile appear as new. Restoring teeth with crowns is an extremely reliable technique. With a dental crown, we can repair the most severe dental problems including:
Restorations with dental crowns will provide the patient with a complete smile and a functional bite. Our office, Nancy Shiba, DDS, is renowned for the quality of our work and the fantastic work we accomplish for people using dental crowns. These treatments are used for long-lasting corrections of major tooth structure problems.
How long does it take to have a dental crown placed?
Having a crown fitted requires at least two office visits, the length may vary based on preparatory work that is needed. Your first visit will include the removal of any decay, we will then take an impression of the tooth, and prepare it for a dental crown. This may include reducing the tooth in size to fit the crown. This initial appointment will end with the placement of a temporary crown.
Your next appointment will be scheduled when the new permanent crown has been received from the dental lab. We will remove the temporary crown, fit the crown, making any necessary adjustments. Once it is fitted, we will permanently cement the crown in place. Once cemented, you have a new beautiful looking tooth that is both aesthetically perfect and will restore your chewing function.
Solving Dental Problems with Crowns
Crown and dental bridgework is a very reliable solution for major dental problems. Tooth problems can be caused by impact injuries, disease, or from wear and tear. Major problems can usually be corrected with the placement of dental crowns. At Nancy Shiba, DDS, we have our crowns made from either high-grade porcelain, or porcelain that has been bonded to gold. The higher strength of the porcelain and gold materials is recommended to treat the most serious of dental problems.
Crowns to Relieve Tooth Pain
Many patients have expressed unexplained pain in back teeth, this is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function for these teeth. In front teeth, older fillings can both weaken, stain or chip. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can prevent breakage.
