Ways of Making Flossing Less Boring

Flossing is an important part of your oral hygiene routine; just as important as brushing. Brushing alone cannot remove all plaque and bacteria as it cannot reach the dark spaces between your teeth or below the gum line, which is where floss comes in.

Without flossing, bacteria multiply and can cause decay between your teeth and increase your risk for developing gum disease. However, flossing is easily tossed aside, as it can be a boring, mundane task. There are ways to make it less boring.

Music
Play music while you go through your oral hygiene routine. Make it upbeat and fun. If you're enjoying the music, the chances are that you'll find the task more bearable, maybe even fun. If you have children, there are songs specifically devoted to flossing that you can sing with them while they do it.

Turn Flossing into a Game

While a game might seem more suited to a child, you can make a game of flossing. Imagine that you're battling bacteria in a good versus evil situation, and by defeating the enemy, you get the enjoyment of a beautiful, clean mouth. For children, this same tactic can be used.

Make Flossing a Family Affair

Most things are boring when you must do them alone. Enlist other members of your household to floss with you. If it's just you and your partner, you can motivate one another, and keep each other company while flossing.

If you have young children, brush and floss your teeth with them too. You'll be setting an example for them for an important, lifelong habit. They'll also get more enjoyment out of it with you as they mimic your behaviors.

The benefits of flossing are many. Floss every day, brush your teeth and make sure you visit your dentist at least twice a year and your teeth will reap them all.
